Introduction to the Martial Arts

Well here is another introduction to those who wish to learn martial arts but don't know where to start.  Martial arts of the world are separated into two categories.  There are the soft martial arts like Tai Chi where a person would go to learn how to relax and breathe while performing movements that help the student learn how to stay calm.  There are many health benefits to Tai Chi which is why the martial art is so popular in China and the United States.

The other form of martial arts that is more popular and the most common in the Western world are what are called the hard martial arts where a person would learn it strictly for self-defense.  They are Karate, Tae Kwon Do, the many versions of Chinese Kung Fu, Judo, Ju Jitsu, and many others.  In these martial arts, people learn to throw, kick, strike, move fast, and many of these martial arts incorporate gymnastics in them to give the students more flexibility and speed.

If you are new to martial arts the main objective if you want to start is to stay in shape and work out.  You will start to work out once you have a teacher, instructor, sifu, master, or sensei but if you work out earlier the work out won't hurt so much.  You must be dedicated and never quit.  Martial arts fuse the mind, body, and spirits of the people who practice them.  Maybe one day you or your friends will be one of the few people who learn to stay healthy by practicing the many beatiful art forms that show off what the human body can really do.

The Martial Art of Aikido

Today's topic is that of the martial art of Aikido.  Aikido was founded by Morehei Ushiba.  The premise of Aikido is to use your opponent's force against them when they attack you.  The movements are like that of a sword.  The main reason for this is because Morehei Ushiba when he first started the martial art was to learn how to defend yourself against a sword wielding opponent.  Certain motions occur whenever a weapon or a sword is swung at you.  When your opponent tries to slash at you, you use their momentum to knock them off balance and take their weapon from them.  This principle can also apply to an opponent who is trying to attack you.  Aikido is meant to not harm your opponent just tire him out.   The best aspect of Aikido is that although the main premise is to knock your attacker off balance, it puts you at an advantage to be in a position if you had to to kill your aggressor.

Today's Topic: Wing Chun Kung Fu

Well today's topic is Wing Chun Kung Fu.  For those who don't know much about Wing Chun the martial art's premise for self-defense is that of the center line.  The center line of the human body that is.  Whenever you get in a conflict with someone as long as you stay as close as possible to your opponent and as close to their center line you will always prevail.  The point of Wing Chun is to bring down your opponent with as many strikes as possible before they have a chance to hit you.  This is ironic because most of the pressure points in the human body are located in the center line of the human body.  Food for thought whenever you have to defend yourself.
